This fact sheet provides answers to common questions
about blue-green algae in waterways and water storages.

NRW is well prepared to advise on ways to deal with the
problems blue-green algae can present to our water
resources. Templates for management and contingency
plans have been developed and distributed to the
relevant agencies to assist them in providing for the
security of public water supplies. Much has been learnt
about the causes, effects and prevention of algal blooms
and research is continuing. Joint initiatives are also under
way nationally with other agencies to develop and
implement long-term measures to reduce the incidence
of algal blooms.
