The sharks of the family Lamnidae are apex pelagic predators
that range into temperate, tropical and polar oceans(Compagno 1984),
and comprise the shortfin mako shark(Isurus oxyrhincus),
the longfin mako shark (Isurus paucus),
the white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), the
salmon shark (Lamna ditropis) and the porbeagle shark
(Lamna nasus) (Compagno 1984).
